What is the Learn-to-Skate Program?

The Learn-to-Skate program is supported by the Waterville Parks and Recreation Department. It's a program to get the youth more involved with healthy activity and to keep them off the streets and into a positive environment. Children have a choice to bring their own equipment such as skateboards, rollerblades, bikes, or scooters and safety equipment such as helmets and pads. Children will learn the basics of whichever sport he or she chooses and most importantly the program coincides with our  mission statement. The instructor of this program will be the Project Manager of the Friends of Green Street Park, David Dutil. His contact information is on the Contacts page and you can reach him via email or phone.

What are the instructor's credentials?

David Dutil has been highly involved in action sports since the age of 10. His favorite sport is rollerblading and has been skating aggressively for seven years and has competed in multiple states. He is a sponsored athlete for Six Feet Deep Clothing. David has put together three rollerblading contests by getting professional sponsors and prize packages and coordinating with different skateparks in order to make these contests successful. His three years served in the military give him great leadership skills to maintain this program.

What if I don't have the necessary equipment for my child?

The appropraite gear, such as skateboards and rollerblades, are entirely donated from the Project Manager of the Friends of Green Street Park, David Dutil. However, safety gear is not provided. All precautions will be taken and of couse safety is priority number one.

When can I sign my child up for the program?

You can be registered anytime by visiting the Contact page and sending an email inquiring about registering your child. We will respond to the email by sending an application form and waiver. Once you fill out the forms you can mail them in, send them via email, fax them, or bring them right into the Parks and Rec office at 6 Wentworth Court right in Waterville. Once we process the paperwork we will send you an email letting you know you are signed up. It's that simple!

Is this a free service?

Yes. This is a free program brought to you by the Friends of Green Street Park and the Parks and Recreation Department.

Sponsor-A-Spot Program

What is the Sponsor-A-Spot program?

The program allows a business to purchase a Green Street Park "spot" or feature instead of directly donating to the project. This allows the businesses name and logo to be permanently put onto the park feature. For example if a business decides to purchase two park benches (valued at $540.00) the benches will have an engraving of the business name and logo permanently on them to show that the business has supported and donated to this community project. All donations are 501(c)(3) tax dedcutible.

How does the Sponsor-A-Spot Program work?

If a business decides to participate in this program the business donates the appropriate funds and then gets placed into a non-profit account via the Parks and Recreation department. Once the project goal of $150,000.00 is attained, the improvements will commence and the business can see what they paid for once the project is complete. Each business sponsor will be recognized on a large sign at the park as well as on the "spot" itself.

What spots/features can be purchased in this program for the project?

We currently have numerous features available for sponorship. We offer "spots" such as:

  • Skatepark obstacles

  • Fitness trail stations

  • Park benches

  • Many more!

And these are but a few of the features the project plans to sponsor. For a more specific list of other available features contact Friends of Green Street.

If I participate in this program how do I know my investment in this project is secure?

The Waterville Skatepark Development Project is backed by the City of Waterville: Parks and Recreation department and the director of the department, Matt Skehan. Mayor Karen Heck always supports this program and each monetary donation goes directly into the Parks and Recreation non-profit 501(c)(3)bank account via Matt Skehan.
