Who are the Friends of Green Street Park and what can we do for you and your community?

Friends is a committee of local advocates with the goal of improving the Green Street Park (aka Sherwin Hill Park) to benefit communities and the patrons of Waterville and was established in October of 2012. Improved recreation, security, and safety is the vision of the Friends of Green Street with the objectives of helping children become more active in a positive environment within a safe and secure location. Friends' focus is to have a skatepark as a centerpiece as the current skatepark is in dire need of improvements as well as the surrounding recreation area. Our intentions are to place security cameras throughout the park and increase police drive by's for added security. We also plan to integrate two disc golf baskets to utilize the open space of the park and to inititate a Learn-to-Skate Program to get the youth more active and involved with their community all the while helping him or her grow. There will also be scheduled intramural sports that will take place on the grass field that is readily available.

The initial idea for creating the Friends of Green Street Park was from David Dutil, a young, energetic, enthusiastic, and driven individual who saw the potential of Green Street Park. He recognized the need for improvements and inititated the Skatepark Association of Waterville, later renamed Friends of Green Street Park, and partners with the Waterville Parks and Recreation Department and has the backing of the Mayor. Friends' has already received help from Gagne & Sons Concrete Company and Cives Steel, two local businesses who supported the project early on. The picture at the top of the page is the result of partnering with these local businesess: a new twenty foot skatepark ledge. Your local businesess have already taken intiative to help their local community. Won't you? Donate today!
